The writing is in Enochian, and reads: LIFE CYCLES AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ONEIROZOA - By B'vhex Do'Nomartha ======================================================== In the academic realm of extraplanar studies, considerable effort is often devoted to examination of exomic phenomena (Tegalt, Hrumbok, Armitage et al), but relatively little focus is usually expended upon studies of other planar flora, fauna, or phenomenae. While some inroads have been made in specialty areas such as that of the Astra (or Astreia, as per Kx'arnat et al), the majority of inner and outer planes, as well as fundamental and gulf planes, have been significantly lacking in academic scrutiny or examination. Although certain recent works have begun to describe the general phenomenae of the Oneiric plane (Gelthaum et al), virtually no academic submissions have been made regarding the unique fauna of the inhabitants of that realm. This work will attempt to establish some of the basic characteristics and observed habits of one particularly elemental group of inhabitants of the Oneiric - the collected group of life-forms known as the Oneirozoa. It must be preemptively asserted that there is some confusion regarding whether the Oneirozoa should be classified as separate life-forms, being as they primarily diverge from a common unit (that of oneirhetoi), or indeed whether all of them are life-forms at all, as they appear to be composed mostly of energy in the vast majority of their forms. Gelthaum et al posit that oneirhetoi and derivatives should in fact be classified as phenomenae, but this work shall attempt to sidestep such classification battles and merely record the observed information regarding the entities or observed interactions in question. PART ONE: THE ONEIRHETOI Primarily composed of plasmatic energy components, the small, plankton-like creatures we designate the Oneirhetoi appear to be independently sentient, but this cannot be confirmed per the null hypothesis of the Qalvaarg Supernal Sentience Test (Qalvaarg et al). It is possible that the movements of Oneirhetoi may be entirely due to the influences of third-party energies; however, substantial evidence as gathered by Experiment 1-A (see Appendix A), appears to indicate with a confidence level beyond that of statistical significance that oneirhetoi do possess some degree of awareness and mobility, however limited. Our estimation is that oneirhetoi possess individual sentience comparable to that of a simple animal, although certain behaviors common to animals such as self-preservation were noted to be distinctly absent (see Annotation 1-B). Environmentally, the oneirhetoi seem to float aimlessly throughout most of the environments in the Oneric, moving from scape to scape without disturbing the integrity of each scape boundary. Scape inhabitants seem unaware of indiviual oneirhetoi but may become cognizant of large groupings, particularly those that form a derivative classification (see Parts 2 through 4). Rudimentary material analysis suggests that Oneirhetoi are composed primarily of non-oneiric energies, although they do possess some degree of oneiris; the primary suspendance mechanism appears to be pure ectoplasm, though a surprisingly complex system of interrelated energies composes a fascinatingly robust internal ecosystem of unexplored function. For additional details, see Experiment 1-C and collateral damage reports 1 through 4. Most interestingly, oneirhetoi appear to possess the ability to aggregate into larger groups, similar to slime molds, that resemble utterly distinct organisms. Initial attempts to determine whether or not aggregated oneirozoa could be broken down into their constituent oneirhetoi proved inconclusive (see Experiment 1-D and obituary reports for Hulbar, Gomad et al). PART TWO: THE PATHONEIROI The most elemental and simplest form assumed by the aggregation of oneirhetoi (hereafter referred to as manifestation, per Qalvaarg et al) is that of the Pathoneiros. Pathoneiroi have the most diversity of the the oneirozoa, taking wildly different shapes and appearances for each manifestation. In some occasions, pathoneiroi manifested as small, quick bipeds with a startling array of toothed limbs, while on other occasions assumed merely indistinct cloudlike shapes of dark colors and discordant auditory presentations. Pathoneroi most commonly appear in scapes associated with distress and phobic phenomenae, although this link may be correlative-only (see Appendix B).
After aggregating scape data and cross-referencing with the results of behavioral observations as categorized via Qalvaarg, our tentative conclusion is that pathoneiroi may be animated by base concepts such as terror or pain. As a result, attempts to communicate were inconclusive (see Experiment 1-D) although numerous vocalizations and other phenomenae potentially communicative in nature were recorded. Also noteworthy was the observation from Hulbar that although the pathoneroi appear to be animated by unpleasant energies, they are immune to their effects, and we nominate his contribution to the record as worthy of posthumous regard. PART THREE: THE ETHONEROI The next most evolved manifestation of the oneirozoa is that of the Ethoneroi. Unique among the oneirozoa in that their manifestations are uniformly solid, the ethoneroi appear to have anthropoid-level sentience, as Y'glar et al were able to conduct conversation for several minutes before the events of Experiment 1-F. Based on recorded data as shown in Appendix C, the Ethoneroi at least appear to meet the fundamental criteria for the Qalvaarg Supernal Sentience Test, and we assign them a tentative rating of 3-J. However, the effects of reflective and solipsistic scapes prevent us from making this statement authoritatively (see Appendix F). As with the pathoneroi, the ethoneroi appear to be conceptually animated, but unlike the pathoneroi their animating influences appear to be idealistic or belief-oriented in nature. See Experiment 1-E for an example of interactions with an ethoneroi which appeared to embody the concept of conformity, and Experiment 1-F as an example of the results for introducing opposed concepts via memetic conveyance. Visually, the ethoneiroi appear anthropoid in appearance, although primarily composed of non-organic matter such as Au or C (see Appendix F for additional notes). The fluidity and erratic movement patterns common to oneirozoa are still present, however, and extreme care should be taken when discussing subjects of antithetical relationship to an ethoneros' animating schemas (see Experiment 1-F and obituary reports for Y'glar et al). PART FOUR: THE LOGONEIROI The last manifestation observed is that of the Logoneroi. This particular manifestation proved elusive and highly rare, with only one observation recorded (see Appendix G and the results of Experiment 2-A). Like non-aggregated oneirhetoi and pathoneroi, logoneiroi appear to be primarily energy-based, although with high infusions of ordered energies similar to that evinced by Echeloids (see Appendices H and K). Visually, logoneiroi appear to commonly take the form of free-floating geometric shapes, although they appear to experience no difficulty with locomotion or independently-leveraged action (see Experiment 2-B and Appendix I). Sentience tests also proved inconclusive, although thankfully with significantly less vigorousness as compared to other oneirozoa (see Appendix I and collateral damage report 5). Though experimental evidence is sparse, our tentative conclusion is that logoneroi continue the trend evinced by pathoneroi and ethoneroi of conceptual animation, though of what type is unclear. The geometric visual presentation suggests a highly ordered and complex animating principle, potentially that of scientific or fundamental insight, but this is mostly speculation. PART FIVE: BIOSYMBIOSIS Although independent confirmation of biosymbiotic establishment could not be confirmed, Y'glar reported an unsuccessful bonding attempt which produced feelings of mutability and velocity. Although the importance of ability to manipulate oneiric energies can be assumed, it is also our tentative conclusion that introspective, meditative, and philosophical capability are important determinants for bonding capability. Additionally, Y'glar reported a sensation of "feeling unacceptably physically slow", which may indicate a requirement for sufficient agility or rapidity among biosymbiotic aspirants. PART SIX: CONCLUSIONS Through the use of techniques as popularized by Ocamorian, Ta-Mudel, Lyst'alar, and Kauvit (see Appendix A), further study of oneirozoa may prove to be a fascinating and actionable endeavor. Additional experiments involving transmission of oneiric mutability and cathexis have yielded promising initial results (see Appendix L and associated works by Ta-Mudel et al), and direct physical observation may yield even greater potential avenues for research and development. It is our recommendation that despite the hazards involved, additional research should be conducted into both oneirozoa and oneiric phenomenae in general.
