QUESTIONS

  • How much space does Lost Souls take up on the server?
Not counting backups, about 2 gig on disk (and currently about 1.25 gig RAM). Counting backups, 4 gig to 40 gig. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
  • What about the wiki? the site?
Excludings logs, 50 meg and 30 meg. Logs are about 625 meg between them. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
  • Is the wiki slow sometimes because the game is hogging resources?
    Probably. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
    • Mind that I think the game should totally take precedence XD
  • Will Lost Souls ever incorporate local maps into the interface?
    • Like, say, a view of one's own room and surrounding rooms two rooms deep which depends on weather and visibility?
      Yes. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
    • Would people even want that?
      Yes. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
    • How hard would it be to script?
The way I actually want it, fairly hard. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
  • I have the poetry skill, how can I use it?
If you join a Discordian affiliation and get your poetry skill over 30, you can use 'set rhyming'. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
  • Am I too curious? XD
    No. —Chaos 15:55, 22 May 2011 (EDT)

Thanks so much for answering all of my questions (even the silly ones ^^) Chaos! <3

That's a surprisingly small footprint; I'm really impressed. I'm also glad to hear that a local map is in the future for this game; I'm also totally hoping that I hit gold with my web design (gods bless that endeavor!) so I can donate some excessive and well deserved monies towards this game...(I usually spend around $20/month on gaming when I'm not broke. Unfortunately, I'm broke. XD)

Oh, that leads me to another question! Most of the donated money goes to paying for development, right? (That's the impression that I got and it makes a lot of sense) but how much would it cost to upgrade the RAM, or whatever is most in need of an upgrade to get the lag to a minimum?

I hope I can figure out why my terminal is freezing during play, too, but I think that's funkiness on my end/internet connection issues with the router over here. :(

1) You're welcome. 2) I support that; best of luck. :) 3) The bulk of it goes to hosting. We don't really need more RAM because we actually can't fully utilize that much. Improved I/O performance would help us, and CPU never hurts. Our next new server is likely to be in the $4000 range. 4) Might want to try a different client (a lot of people like MUSHclient) and see if you get any different results. —Chaos 23:53, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
Oh, also, the whole hairstyles thing is something I've given some thought to, and it'll be along by and by. —Chaos 23:56, 22 May 2011 (EDT)

Damn, servers are expensive. O.o; Meh, clients are a non-issue, I actually can't install any on this computer without disrupting the updates and I'm greedy for google awesomeness, so telnet through my own ssh connection with my server is how I'm rocking it. >_>; Turns out it /is/ the annoying router here that's doing all the damage though. Maybe I can persuade folk that it's worth the money for a new one. XD

If at any time it's useful, I have about 90 gigs of hosting with Media Temple that at least 50 of are going to be unused for at least a year (probably several years) and I'm totally willing to donate any of that as can be used towards Lost Souls. ^^
