There are certain requirements which are placed upon those chosen to wield the
power of the Green Lantern Corps.

One is expected to behave in keeping with the ideals of law, justice, truth,
and virtue upon which the Corps was founded, and to act against the spread of
evil wherever it may be found.

There is also a practical requirement due to the nature of the power rings: a
Green Lantern may not use equipment composed of iron or steel, due to the
instabilities this can introduce into the rings.

It should be noted that the emerald energy is powerless against iron and steel;
because of this, a Green Lantern must always be prepared to do battle without
relying solely upon his power ring. Hal Jordan provides members of the Corps
with various sorts of training to this end.
