The eponae, also known as elder horses, are the progenitors of horses and other horse-like races. Said to have been crafted by the gods from the elements of the sea, earth, and sky, they are capable of roaming through any environment as easily as ordinary horses trot across a field.

Though they can be ridden by mortals, the eponae are intelligent and powerful, and rarely consent to any such arrangement. The only records of eponae consenting to be ridden have usually involved gods or other events of similar gravity .
