Running is required, as is fairly obvious from the bond failure message, certainly at less than 75 skill:

This provides a temporary boost to the skills air affinity, earth resistance, vacuum resistance, crushing resistance, cutting resistance, piercing resistance, and running.
Vishuddha Chakra
Being bonded to a cheetah will grant and automatically charge the Vishuddha (blue) chakra, which grants a large bonus to intelligence and numerous skills.
