-Drakes are the species of animal sentience closest to dragons.  Drakes are enormous winged lizards capable of breathing deadly energies upon their prey.  While drakes are not the optimal candidates for the Ranger bond, they take well enough to it, and confer upon their Rangers the ability to replenish their phlogiston glands.  But the main advantage of having a drake as a familiar is not this, nor the strength and abilities enjoined, but the drake itself.  Drakes are ferocious combatants, and having one as one's animal soulmate is a tremendous boon.
