A selection from the Explorer's Guide, entitled Fruits in a Village of Faeries.

Upon my travels, one day I stumbled onto a what I thought was a deserted village. It was strange. When I entered, I heard laughter, people shouting, and livestock making their noises.

It was by pure accident with which these next events occurred. As I made my way to the center of this village, I heard footsteps. I heard the claps of boots on the cobblestone path. I drew my sword out of fright. The sound of a dog, barking madly at the world for being under fed. The neighing of a horse. That laughter, that horrible, horrible laughter! With all my might, I swung and made the noise stop!

Thump! All was quiet. I turned around. Shivering with terror and on the ground was this fruit. Wild in color, and strange in texture. In the bright sun light, the color shifted depending which way you rolled it. My curosity got the best of me, although I wish it didn't.

I took this fruit into my hand, mesmerized by its chaotic color, I took a bite. It bit me back. Wow! It was so sour and flooded my mouth with sweetness. Sweat trickled down my forehead and I did all I could to not pass out.

Wild sparks of color flew out of everywhere. The world spun and abruptly stopped and spun the other way. When the world stopped spinning and the color dissipated, it was morning. My head throbbed, and I had almost no feeling in my limbs.

For seven days and seven nights, there I lay. Slowly healing and fighting off that taint the fruit had infected me with. On the eighth day I left, and as I slowly stumbled out of the village the noise, the laughter it returned. And I never did and never will again.
