A tyltylgm is a broad, hardened carapace constructed on the principles illustrated by ghaa'ghu insects, though considerably improved. To be clear, it is a bodily limb rather than a covering across your entire vorgaal; the demands of shoggoth physiology do not readily admit a hard surface over all of one's carculgnath. The design objectives of a tyltylgm are to provide as high as possible a ratio of damage-absorbing surface area to invested vorgaal while maximizing the durability of this surface area. Tyltylgml can be somewhat brittle when faced with force sufficient to damage them, but for a competently formed tyltylgm, this can require a tremendous amount of force.
