Plural: Brainstems Brainstems are lumpish organs which typically connect creatures' brains to their spinal cords, and thus to the rest of their bodies. Depending on a creature's body plan, it may lack a brainstem; creatures which hold their brains in places other than a cranium or which lack spinal cords will often have no need for one.
