[ Gaia ]
She is known by many names; some worship Her as the Earthmother, some call Her Chauntea, some simply name Her the Goddess. To we of the Lupines, She is Gaia. Gaia embodies Nature, the Wild that is our home. She is our patron and guide, seeing us safely through the Delirium. Our purpose, above all others, is to do Her honor.
We are also Her protectors, for this is true of gods: when that which they represent is done injury, they themselves are done injury. And it is also true that while for a mortal to defy the marshalled power of a god is folly, it can be very difficult for a god to focus its might. Mortals are as ants to a god, but like ants they may pick at and harry it, slowly eroding its strength and preparing the way for their own divine or diabolical patrons to do more grave damage.
Centuries ago, great Uktena saw forces gathering to threaten Gaia in this manner. Seeing that She would need mortal defenders, he made the discovery of the Delirium and created the Lupines. Ever since, we have preserved Gaia against each threat which rises against her, and so shall we continue.
The principal threat which faces our Goddess in this time is that of alien and demonic creatures which would fain consume or destroy all life upon our world; foul Ahrikol and his Ringwielders, monstrous Cthulhu, the varied lloigor, others multifarous and nefarious. These are the first among the foes of the Lupines. The encroachment of the city-dwelling races upon the Wild unnerves more and more of our learned ones; there seems to be little threat from them at present, though, so while cities remain a thing to be despised, the more prominent dangers must take priority, for now.
