Phlogiston

While not actually existant in the real world, phlogiston was nonetheless a popular explanation in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries for the processeses we now refer to as oxidation/reduction reactions.

In LS, phlogiston is the material that allows draconic races to breathe flame or other essences. It is an explosive gas that reacts to other magickal elements in its environment to produce a blast of destructive energy. The basic form of breath weapon from the phlogiston glands is fire, though this is altered when the user's body is instilled with the essence of other elements. Instilling ice affinity changes the breathe to frost, necromantic affinity instills darkfire, magick instills sorcerous flame, air instills lightning, etc. These effect can be combined to form compound or complex elemental effects, such as sorcerous frost, black ice, sorcerous lightning, etc.
