Overview

Banking in Lost Souls is a service vital to adventurers. Having someone else looking after your money when death is an almost daily occurrence is a very sensible thing.

Lost Souls does not use investment banking, rather a "bank" is part of the treasury and financial dealings of most large organisations. They function more like credit unions, where access to the bank is only granted with membership of the organisation.

Accounts can be opened at a bank with a large enough deposit. Once the account is open deposits of any size can be made. Any deposit into the account attracts a percentage fee. This fee goes straight to the organisation that controls the bank and provides one of their sources of funding. Accounts do not gain interest, and no fees are taken after the original deposit fee.

Banks will only store as much money as they believe the customer can handle. They will refuse to accept deposits past this point.

The account holding the money is shared between different banks, though different banks calculate the maximum balance differently. For example, the Losthaven bank allows the customer to deposit a lot more than Shylock in the Temple of Discordia.

It is not known what methods the banks use to confirm identity, but the methods are foolproof.

Account maximum balance

The maximum balance on account is affected by many skills (and also by which bank the customer is using when doing a deposit). The general guide, explained in the sign in banks, reads:

All of your skill in finance and ownership is applied to your maximum savings capacity.
A total of all your skills in trade and craft are applied by one fourth.
A total of all your social skills are applied by one half.
Some of your abilities in certain skills may reduce your maximum balance.

In a bit more of tested details:

Note that Finance also affects one's carried wealth ('show wealth capacity') and keep capacity category 'General/Items/Valuables'. Ownership also affects keep capacity, a lot, in direct 100% skill to keep points ratio to category 'General/Items'.

Commands

all bank access is now done by either talking to the banker (see the info for the banker in question) or directly handing them money.
