[ Ethics ]

A person's ethics reflect their ideals about the way people should behave. They are related to alignment, but separate; they are described using the same terms as alignment. Read the 'help alignment' file for those.

People with balanced ethics receive more experience and thus advance faster. However, it is more difficult to maintain this balance; the farther away your alignment is from your ethics, the less experience you receive. Your ethical level is displayed in 'score', along with the divergence between your alignment and ethics.

Your ethics do change, though much more slowly than your alignment. If you maintain a given alignment level for long enough, your ethics will change toward it. This is a gradual process, however.

Players should roleplay their ethics extensively; it should be a defining part of your character's personality. If you're wondering whether or not to do something, first decide what impact your ethics would have on the choice.
