The Rachnei:

The rachnei, or spider-folk, are creatures of fearful legend -- especially to the invae. They have the eight-limbed anatomy of spiders but stand erect, using four limbs as legs and four as arms, and are covered in thick, generally dark-colored chitin. Rachnei are powerful, intelligent predators, often found living in solitude or small clans in mountains or caves near invae hives, their preferred source of prey. They are particularly feared for the capacity of their massive webspinning glands to produce a volume of spidersilk that can immobilize a large animal in seconds.

Most Rachnei use the Xitid tongue, which is of course adapted to their vocal apparatus and difficult for others to use. There is also a gestural form of this language, Ci-Xitid, expressed in patterns of movement of the four rachnei manipulatory limbs. The rachnei lifespan is similar to that of humans, rarely exceeding eighty years.

Ygelleth, the Demon Queen of Spiders, considers all rachnei as her personal property, as with the drow, and claims to have personally created the race. Also as with the drow, not all rachnei are content with this relationship to the goddess.
