A thaumis is a spherical organ that performs some specific magickal function, the exact function varying from species to species (with some species even having multiple thaumes for different purposes). While some magickal abilities commonly reside in more specific kinds of organ, thaumes seem to be more general, embodying a variety of capabilities within organs having very similar physical form.
