The Forms which are given unto us to use are sixfold; the Triptych of the Forms encodes their order.
The High Form is that which most fully bespeaks balance and Virtu in its expression of our essence; this is your natural shape, the Garou form. It taxes one not to assume or remain in this guise, for it is not disturbing to the equilibrium of one's soul. It is our tragedy that we draw so much of our power from the abandonment of the High Form for shapes that bring one away from such esthetic purity, and for this we envy those of our garou brethren who do not take up the mantle of the Lupines, but our responsibility to act as defenders of Gaia takes precedence over our personal desires.
The Mediary Forms interpose themselves between the High Form and the Base Forms; they are not balanced, but neither do they tip the scales to the point of extremity. They are Hispo, more wolf than man, and Metis, more man than wolf. The Hispo expression favors Gnosis over Rage, while the Metis prefers the opposite. These forms require a moderate expenditure of energy to take and maintain, for they lack the concord of the High Form.
The Base Forms are the expressions of extremes, knowing nothing of balance. The Lupus form is purely wolf, and is strong in Rage; the Homid form is solely human, and its Gnosis is great. Both these forms are costly to the spirit, but neither so much as the final one. The most terrifying aspect -- both to one's enemies and to oneself -- which one may assume is the K'rinos form. It is the antithesis of the High Form, blending the elements of the Lupine nature not into the elegance of the Garou form but into a hulking monstrosity filled with deadly Rage. The woe of the enemies of one in K'rinos form is great, but perhaps not as great as the woe of his own spirit.
