Privacy on Lost Souls

In order to understand privacy issues as they are relevant to Lost Souls, first a distinction needs to be made between information about you, the player, and information pertaining to what you do by controlling a character in the game.

Information about you, such as your e-mail address and the IP numbers you connect from, is considered private unless you designate it otherwise. This means that it is not the policy of administration to intentionally disclose this information to other parties without a demonstrable need. This is to say, we are not going to sell your e-mail address to spammers. Administrative staff will have access to it at their own discretion. Please note that we, as volunteer hobbyists, do not assume any legal responsibility whatsoever for keeping this information private. This is, of course, a part of our overall policy of not assuming legal responsibility for anything at all.

What you do while controlling a character in the game is not private to any extent whatsoever. You are playing in a game world where people can turn invisible, read minds, scry magickally, and otherwise engage in numerous kinds of surveillance; further, administrative staff may monitor your actions at will without resorting to in-game mechanisms. We are not responsible for keeping your behavior from resulting in you being embarrassed, blackmailed, or divorced; you are. If you can't bear the thought of someone watching you do it, don't do it.
