Set Effort

Usage: set effort to <percent>

  • Sets the percentage of effort you put into combat. Lowering your level of effort below 100% reduces your effectiveness -- check your attack and damage ratings, for example, to see how -- but also reduces the endurance cost of your attacks and defenses. The reduction in both is proportional to the level of effort you choose. With sufficient willpower, courage, discipline, tenacity, and skill in massive exertion, you can also raise your level of effort above 100%; any effort over 100% is much more exhausting to sustain, and the higher the effort the more dramatic the increase in endurance cost. 'show maximum effort' displays the maximum level of effort you can use. The highest possible level of effort for anyone is 200%. Conversely, with low levels of ability in the relevant areas, you may find yourself unable to sustain ordinary 100% effort, though most people are able to do so unless impaired in some way.
  • Note that what this command does is set the level of effort you *want* to use. The actual level you are able to use may be different -- some combat modes have a minimum level of effort, and you can set your desired effort level to a level higher than you can presently actually use, in order to use that level when it becomes available to you.
