The effects which may be achieved by use of the power rings are myriad, but they have certain things in common.
First, use of them requires use of both the ring's stored power from the Power Battery and the wielder's own spiritual energy; the latter focusses the power into an effect while the former composes the effect itself. Sustained effects require both an initial expenditure of energy and a continuing flow of power to maintain it. If the flow of power is cut off for any reason, the effect will quickly cease to exist. To recharge your ring, 'charge my power ring' at the Power Battery.
Secondly, the energy is, in all its forms, powerless against iron and steel. Used to attack, it will dissipate if it strikes iron; used to defend, iron will pass through it without the slightest hindrance.
The effects known to be possible are as follows:
[ Charge Analysis ] [ Command : ] will knowledge of charge [ Initial Power : ] None [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] The ring will give knowledge of its charge level.
[ Light Projection ] [ Command : ] will light [ on | off ] [ Initial Power : ] Low [ Maintenance Power : ] Low [ Description : ] A power ring may easily be made to shine with a bright emerald glow.
[ Flight ] [ Command : ] will flight [ on | off ] [ Initial Power : ] Low [ Maintenance Power : ] Medium [ Description : ] The power ring is employed to propel the wearer through the air.
[ Language Translation ] [ Command : ] will translation [ on | off ] [ Initial Power : ] Low [ Maintenance Power : ] Low [ Description : ] The power ring uses a low-level telepathic effect to translate languages spoken to its wielder. The effectiveness of the translation varies with skill. Due to the nature of the power, it is of no aid in deciphering written texts, and does not aid others' comprehension of one's own words.
[ Magic Detection ] [ Command : ] will detection of magic [ Initial Power : ] Low [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Causes nearby enchanted objects to give off an emerald glow.
[ Detection of Evil ] [ Command : ] will detection of evil [ Initial Power : ] Low [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Causes evil creatures to glow emerald.
[ Detection of Chaos ] [ Command : ] will detection of chaos [ Initial Power : ] Low [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Causes chaotic creatures to glow emerald.
[ Defensive Aura ] [ Command : ] will aura [ on | off ] [ Initial Power : ] Medium [ Maintenance Power : ] High [ Description : ] Projects a defensive aura of ring-energy around the Green Lantern. It serves to deflect attacks, protect against the elements, and provide the Green Lantern with air while underwater.
[ Healing ] [ Command : ] will healing upon <target> [ Initial Power : ] Medium [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Bathes the target in a regenerative field of ring-energy.
[ Energy Blasts ] [ Command : ] will a blast [ at <target> ] [ Initial Power : ] Medium [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Fires a blast of ring-energy at an enemy.
[ Light Flares ] [ Command : ] will a flare [ Initial Power : ] Medium [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] The combat application of your power ring's ability to give off light, this ability causes your ring to generate a flare of intense emerald radiance. This flash is capable of blinding anyone nearby, especially anyone looking at you at the time.
[ Emerald Fire ] [ Command : ] will emerald fire [ upon <target> ] [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Bathes the target in deadly mystical fires generated by the power ring.
[ Emerald Lightning ] [ Command : ] will emerald lightning [ upon <target> ] [ Initial Power : ] Very High [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Forms the ring-energy into an arc of lightning to strike your target. Because this created lightning does have some of the properties of true lightning, any iron on the target will attract the bolt and dissipate it.
[ Corpore Lux ] [ Command : ] will corpore lux [ on | off ] [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] High [ Description : ] An advanced technique known to be employed by some senior Green Lanterns is Corpore Lux, the "Body of Light". This technique employs the ring to infuse the Green Lantern's body with emerald energy, which results in physical strengthening, heightened perceptions, and highly accelerated reactions, all of which increase in effect as the ringwielder's skills grow keener. The infusion also produces several side effects: a tinge of green across one's field of vision, a slight greenish glow upon one's skin, and an unfortunate vulnerability to weapons of iron and steel, this latter due to the body's dependence on the emerald energy while the infusion is in place. [ Teleportation ] [ Command : ] will teleportation [ home | back | away | to <person> ] [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Teleports the Green Lantern. Teleportation may be achieved to the meeting hall, back to a location previously teleported from, to the location of another Green Lantern, or simply to some random place other than your current location.
[ Restraining Bands ] [ Command : ] will bands [ around <target> ] [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] High [ Description : ] Wraps the target in bands of ring-energy, hopefully immobilizing him. The strength of the bands depends on the Green Lantern's power and skill.
[ Energy Construct Equipment ] [ Command : ] will creation of a <item> [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] Medium [ Description : ] Creates an object from ring-energy. These items are weightless and of high material strength, but susceptible to magickal dispelling effects. See 'help construct items' for a list of the items which can be created. Generally, the larger and more formidable an item, the more energy it requires to maintain.
[ Attack Constructs ] [ Command : ] will a giant <weapon> [ to attack <target> ] [ Initial Power : ] Medium [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Creates a giant version of any of the close combat weapons in 'help construct items', which attacks your target and then disappears.
[ Attack Construct Swarms ] [ Command : ] will a swarm of <weapons> [ to attack <target> ] [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Creates a swarm of small attack constructs. If directed at a target, they will all attempt to strike that target; if not, they will swirl madly about the area, striking at random, though they are controllable enough that they will only strike those you are fighting. See 'help construct items' for the types of attack construct you can use.
[ Construct Absorption ] [ Command : ] will absorption of <item> [ Initial Power : ] None [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] A power ring may be used to absorb and destroy a magickal construct, storing its energy for future use. This can be done to ring-energy constructs, both one's own and those of others, and to other objects composed entirely of magickal energy.
[ Construct Dissipation ] [ Command : ] will deconstruction [ Initial Power : ] None [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] Causes the instant destruction of any ring-energy constructs you are currently maintaining, including defensive auras and restraining bands.
[ Life Preservation ] [ Command : ] None [ Initial Power : ] High [ Maintenance Power : ] None [ Description : ] In the event that its wielder's life is mortally threatened, the power ring will expend all energy available to it in an attempt to preserve his life. This is an emergency measure, and no Green Lantern should rely upon it moreso than his wits and abilities, lest the Corps find itself bereft of his service. However, one may wish to note that the infusion of emerald energy created by the Corpore Lux technique seems to aid the ring somewhat in its attempt to preserve one's life.
