Wand Descriptions

This is an ebony wand decorated with runes and sigils all along its length. There is an engraving of a hollow torus on
its side. You recognize it as a magickal Wand of Qlippotic Power. It has a tracery of auroric radiance within and around
it. You estimate its value at about two thousand forty gold.
It looks about a tenth of a dimin across and two and two fifths dimins long. It weighs about a fiftieth of a dekan.
After a moment, the knowledge that the ebony wand of qlippotic power is composed of ninety-one percent ebony and nine
percent mana drifts into your mind like a long-forgotten memory.
You feel knowledge drifting into your mind like a long-forgotten memory, making you aware that the ebony wand of qlippotic
power can be activated by visualizing a hollow torus.
This is a redwood wand decorated with runes and sigils all along its length. You recognize it as a magickal Wand of Chaos.
It has a tracery of auroric radiance within and around it. You estimate its value at about two thousand two hundred fifty
gold.
It looks about a tenth of a dimin across and three and three fifths dimins long. It weighs about three two-hundredths of
a dekan.
After a moment, the knowledge that the redwood wand of chaos is composed of ninety-one percent redwood and nine percent
mana drifts into your mind like a long-forgotten memory.

Varieties

  • Wands in lost souls are used for one purpose, shooting beams/tendrils/bolts/spurts of destructive power at one's enemies.
  • There are many varieties of wand, Knowledge of the different varieties can be acquired intrinsically via the Arcane Lore (possibly others) skill, or by identifying an example of each type of wand.
  • Different varieties deal different damage types, while different individual wands of the same variety can have different activation methods. (This can make it awkward to lens them).
  • Seem to be composed of any type of wood or metallic material such as Fir, Rosewood, Titanium, Steel, Scarabinium etc. I have never come across a wand composed of a material that didn't have one of those properties, Bone, or Granite for example, but you never know.

Activation

  • Lenses of Insight can be used to learn the activation method for a particular wand.
  • Activating wands require first that the wand be held, pointed at the desired target, and then activated in the manner specific to it (can be a command word, a particular type of touch, or other).
  • Wandslingers can dispense with this tedious business and are instantly able to use any wand with the wand fire maneuver.

Wand Charge

  • Wands contain a number of charges, which are consumed with each activation.
  • You can check a wand's charge level using the info command.
  • It is possible to recharge them by wearing them in a holster, or by touching them to a wand battery.
  • Rabbit Consorts are able to recharge wands at the expense of their chakra energy
  • The maximum charge a wand can hold is determined by the Enchantment and Magick Affinity skills of the one recharging it (possibly also Thaumaturgy, Arcane Lore, others?).

Player notes

  • Wands composed of durable metals are less likely to break in combat. Given the choice been a balsa wand and an adamantite wand of the same type, the adamantite one is likely a safer bet.
  • Related to the above, be sure that you aren't attacking or deflecting with your wand, they really aren't built to withstand that. (The hold command is equivalent to wield+stop attacking with+stop defending with).
  • I haven't done any investigation into magnitude of wand power. Do some types do more damage? Can wands of the same type roll with different damage levels?.
  • Wands can regularly be found at Luc's shop in Disco, at Ang's shop in Yathryn, and at Spencer's shop in the Leah undercity.
