Description

The Zetesai (Singular male/female/neuter and hermaphrodite titles: Zetesis/Zetesa/Zeteson) are seekers of higher biomsymbioses.

Spoiler warning: information below includes details, such as solutions to puzzles or quest procedures, that you may prefer to discover on your own.
You see a huge mechanical hanging rosewood-embedded iron-plated structure.
The huge mechanical hanging rosewood-embedded iron-plated structure has an assemblage of arms, or legs, gripping the ceiling in a
spider-like manner. Gears on these legs are rotating very slowly, causing the structure to walk, in extremely slow motion, across the
cavern ceiling. A circular green glass surface covers the bottom, and appears to look upwards into some sort of room. An open rusty
iron hatch is attached to the bottom, next to the window. It is permeated by an intense, vibrant auroric radiance.

Locations

Wanders around the ceiling of the River Tethys, moving one room every 6 to 18 hours.

[OOC Ammok] "anyone know how far the Zetesai guildhall wanders from co-ords on the wiki .?"
[OOC Twilight] "it can go anywhere on the ceiling of tethys"
[OOC Ammok] "ahh .."
[OOC Twilight] "moves once every fuzz(Time_Day / 2), so not that often"

Need 5 INT and 1 EGO specs available. There are also minimum required skills in animal lore, biology, and cosmology required to join (Minimum numbers unknown but with mix of around 50 cosmology, 70 animal lore, and 90 biology was enough - also got in with 60-62 in each.). Requirements seem to be a minimum of 35 in each, plus a sum of 150 in these skills.

Gwale quizzes you briefly on the topics of animal lore, biology, and cosmology.
Gwale rumbles, ( :: A certain level of familiarity with the concepts of animal lore/cosmology/biology is required for
the study of archtaxa. :: ) to you.

Requires having previous bond experience:

Gwale rumbles, ( :: In order to master the art of autometotic animaphresis, one must have preexisting experience with empathic bonds bonds.
Conduct such research independently, then return. :: ) to you.

Gwale will ask you to provide the dissected brain of a rare creature, a mutated species of sentient deathroaches called "Kalythrepses". (Singular is "Kalythreps")
More specifically: drop a coruscar (NB: obtained from a polypid) in the presence of a deathroach. This turns it into a rather powerful monster; after it is killed, dissect out the brain (40 anatomy worked).

Gwale mutteringly rumbles, ( :: It seems as though more types of symbioses
are emerging every day, as a matter of course. :: ) in Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp sez, ( :: The details are in Archtaxon
Zetesai. But the jist is that certain kinds of symbioses constitute a new and
even higher class of life forms. :: ) in Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp sez, ( :: A simple example is lichen.
Take two yucky things, a fungus and an algae. When they work together, they
form the much less yucky lichen, which can survive almost anywhere: the
arctic, the desert... there's even some in the Exoma and Tethys. I once heard
Gwale say that there's lichen in Hell. I wouldn't know, but that guy doesn't
joke around. :: ) in Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp sez, ( :: Anyhoo, the highest taxa, that
is, the highest classes of organisms, tend to be symbiotic unions. Just like
you can think of lichen as one organism, you can think of symbioses as one
organism. And the guy who wrote that book -- or someone he knew or someone he
knew a lot about (no one really knows) -- he figured out that the best way to
study these unions was to *make* them. :: ) in Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp quietly sez to Gwale something you cannot
hear in halting, squeakingly-accented Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp sez, ( :: So the Zetesai have a way of
forming symbiotic bonds with all sorts of crazy things. And then we can study
by self-experimentation or introspection. Also, the bonds are... really
wonderful. :: ) in Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp pets the apagion with its right claw.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp sez, ( :: I couldn't imagine life without
this guy, myself. Some Zetesai cycle through a lot of bonds in their lives,
though... it can cause a lot of trauma, but Gwale says that there are ways to
minimize it. :: ) in Nilasnai.
The opalescent-white-skinned imp sez, ( :: Anyway, that's the quick
rundown. If you're interested, talk to Gwale. He might put you through a
gauntlet to join, though. He's weird like that. :: ) in Nilasnai.

When asked about "Archtaxon Zetesai"

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp yells, ( :: I'm glad you asked! :: ) in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp sez, ( :: We're a jolly old society of folks. We've been around a lot longer
than this fella here has, even. :: ) in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp quietly sez to Tlatzazoca something you cannot hear in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp sez, ( :: Not sure how he got to be gatekeeper. Anyhoo... :: ) in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp sez, ( :: You may have wondered about all the strange creatures you see around here.
That's pretty normal. But we here tend to *obsess* over it. Almost any sort of extraplanar or unusually high-energy life
forms, it really floats our boats. :: ) in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp quietly sez to Tlatzazoca something you cannot hear in halting, squeakingly-accented Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp sez, ( :: A lot of us are professional biologists. Some, like me, are just curious. :: ) in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp sez, ( :: But almost all of us got here by reading Hoi Ton Archtaxon Zetesai. It's kind
of hard to find copies, but you should check it out if you haven't read it. It explains things a lot better than I can. :: ) in Nilasnai.

The opalescent-white-skinned male imp sez, ( :: It explains systematic differences between higher and lower classes of species,
and why you can typically find higher species in weirder environments, like Tethys. Almost as an afterthought, it discusses
symbiosis and bonding. :: ) in Nilasnai.

Abilities

In their study of the archtaxa, Zetesai have developed a technique called autometotic animaphresis, which allows them to add or remove archsymbiotic morphologies by altering the shape of their soul. These morphologies provide them with varying means of forming empathic bonds.

There are two key values related to autometotic animaphresis, they are:

  • Animaphretic Potential: A number from 0 to 100 representing the portion of one's soul not currently committed to archsymbiosis.
  • Multivalence: The total number of distinct morphologies a zetesai can currently support. This value ranges from 1 to 5 and is determined by an unknown composite of skills which includes Eudaimonia, Animaphrasty, Centering, Equilibrium and others.

Initially, zetesai know of the Telo-Exogenic Archsymbiosis morphology, which uses all 100 points of animaphretic potential, and allows a full essence bond with an extraplanar Familiar. Additional morphologies will be discovered as the zetesai continue their studies.

Determining the exact mechanism for discovering new morphologies, a comprehensive list of morphologies, and the criteria for unlocking each of them is a work in progress. Initial observations indicate that morphology discoveries are triggered by bond growth events that occur while the zetesai meets all of the requisite knowledge requirements for the morphology. Those knowledge requirements take the form of composite skill thresholds, with other knowledge or experiential factors likely having an impact. It has been confirmed by Marco that once discovered --morphologies cannot be forgotten-- even if the zetesai no longer meets the knowledge thresholds, or leaves and rejoins the guild.

notes

Temno, and Poly seem to require minimal or no skill investment and have appeard for most of us before reaching 100% on a Telo. Currently many of us are spreading skills in different directions to find a broad variety of morphologies. The help files so far have vaguely pointed us in the direction of unlock requirements, but we need a lot more data for patterns to emerge.

Skills after receiving the 20 point Poly-Exogenic Archsymbiosis were at

Eido-Bastetic Archsymbiosis based on the help file it seems likely that knowledge of Bast is required. No idea if the following skills were relevant, but don't know what "understanding one's own body" means.

Eido-Fenric Archsymbiosis requires knowledge of Fenris and has a similar line aboud "understanding one's own body" probably not erotic lore/erotic arts after all. My working theory is that both of these either care mostly about generic anatomy/biology/animal lore, or they care about harm skills relevant to your own race.

Theology @ 40 (108)

Arch-Fenric Archsymbiosis By helpfile, it seems to be unlocked through the study of leadership and theology. Theology @ 105 Leadership @ 134

Arch-Bastetic Archsymbiosis Similar helpfile to Arch-Fenric, possibly unlocked through the study of leadership and theology. Theology @ 149 Leadership @ 146

Known Familiar Types

The old Zetesai Familiars category is no longer meaningful. As different morphologies permit bonds with different animal classes. See the previous section for more details.
